Create your first Docker container with an ASP.NET web app

Purpose

Containers allow you to achieve many of the isolation benefits of physical servers or VMs, while achieving higher density of applications that can run on the same host. Visual Studio 2017 includes built-in tools that help you create and publish Docker containers.

This quickstart shows how to create your first Docker container image using Visual Studio. When you’re finished, you’ll have a container image published to Azure Container Registry that runs a simple ASP.NET web app.
